Licensing and Prerequisites for Indoor Location

This section has the following information regarding the use of the Indoor Location feature.

Licensing

The Indoor Location feature requires the following:

  • SOTI MobiControl must be installed with an active license.
  • Devices must be enrolled in SOTI MobiControl.
  • Devices must have SOTI MobiControl Agent installed.
  • For Indoor Map, you must have one of the following:
  • For Data Provider connection type, use third party data provider integration:
  • For GPS connection type, special setup is not required.

Third Party Data Providers

Cisco Spaces

  • Licensing:
    • To implement indoor device tracking using Cisco Spaces, the Spaces ACT license is required. This license provides access to a comprehensive suite of location-based services, including asset tracking, occupancy monitoring, and environmental analytics. Licensing is typically based on the number of devices or the square footage of the area covered.
Note: You must deploy a minimum of three access points for triangulation. Higher density and strategically placed access points result in better accuracy and more reliable data for indoor location tracking.
  • Wi-Fi access points deployed for the indoor environment:
Manufacturer Access Points
Cisco Access Points 9105AX (I/W), 9115AX (I/E), 9117AX (I), 9120AX (I/E), 9130AX (I/E), 9136I, 9162I, 9164I, 9166I, 9166D1, IW9165D Heavy Duty Series, IW9165E Rugged Series, IW9167 (E/I) Heavy Duty Series, CW9172I Series (Wi-Fi 7), CW9176I Series (Wi-Fi 7), CW9178I Series (Wi-Fi 7)
Cisco Aironet 4800 Series
Cisco Aironet 3800 Series (3802)
Cisco Aironet 2800 Series (2802)
Cisco Aironet 3700 Series (3702)

Cisco Meraki Access Points Meraki MR Series (MR36, MR46, MR56, MR28, MR33, MR42, MR52, MR53, MR20, MR70, MR76, MR86, MR74, MR84)
Note: To connect Meraki access points, the same Cisco Spaces ACT license is required. For detailed instructions on connecting Meraki to Cisco Spaces, refer to Cisco's guide in the section 'Importing Cisco Meraki Locations Using the API Keys'.

Extreme Networks

  • Licensing:
    • To implement indoor device tracking using Extreme Networks' solutions, the ExtremeCloud IQ Pilot license is required. This license enables the management of access points, switches, and SD-WAN, providing real-time and historical monitoring, comprehensive troubleshooting, and integrated network applications.
    • For enhanced location services, such as asset tracking and analytics, the ExtremeCloud IQ CoPilot license is recommended. CoPilot offers advanced anomaly detection and capabilities to ensure the user experience of wireless and wired devices.
Note: You must deploy a minimum of three access points for triangulation. Higher density and strategically placed access points result in better accuracy and more reliable data for indoor location tracking.
  • Wi-Fi access points deployed for the indoor environment:

Juniper Networks

  • Licensing: To implement indoor device tracking with Juniper Mist AI, you can utilize the User Engagement service. The User Engagement service is available on a per-Access Point (AP) basis, allowing you to scale your deployment according to your organization's needs. To activate this subscription, you can contact MistRenewal@juniper.net to purchase the necessary licenses.
Note: You must deploy a minimum of three access points for triangulation. Higher density and strategically placed access points result in better accuracy and more reliable data for indoor location tracking.
  • Wi-Fi access points deployed for the indoor environment:
Wireless Access Point Type Access Point
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) APs AP12–Entry-level; supports basic Wi-Fi location
AP32–Dual-radio, 2x2:2; supports Wi-Fi + BLE location
AP33–4x4:4; enhanced coverage and location precision
AP43–High-performance; includes vBLE + Wi-Fi triangulation
AP45–Flagship model; Wi-Fi 6, vBLE, IoT expansion port
AP63–Outdoor version of AP43 with vBLE support
AP64–Outdoor version; optimized for cost and vBLE tracking
Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax in 6 GHz) APs AP24–Tri-band 2x2:2 with 6 GHz; includes vBLE
AP34–Tri-band 4x4:4; includes advanced location services
AP45E–External antenna version of AP45, includes full location features
AP34E–External antenna variant of AP34
Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac Wave 2) APs (legacy models) AP21, AP41, AP61–Support Wi-Fi location but have less precise triangulation than Wi-Fi 6/vBLE models. AP41 and AP61 include vBLE
Note: These APs support Wi-Fi RSSI-based client location and most also support virtual Bluetooth LE (vBLE) for higher accuracy when using BLE tags.

Aruba Central

  • Licensing: To implement indoor device tracking using Aruba Central, you must have the Aruba Central Advanced license. The Advanced license provides enhanced location analytics, and is required for integration with Indoor Location in SOTI XSight Live View.
Note: You must deploy a minimum of three access points for triangulation. Higher density and strategically placed access points result in better accuracy and more reliable data for indoor location tracking.

Disabling MAC Randomization

Note: Disabling of MAC address randomization is available for both Android Classic and Android Enterprise devices.
  1. Disable MAC address randomization in SOTI MobiControl.
Note: See the SOTI MobiControl topics, Wi-Fi (Android Classic) and Wi-Fi (Android Enterprise) for more information on configuring Wi-Fi on your devices when creating or editing a profile.
  2. Create a profile in SOTI MobiControl. In the Configurations section under Connectivity, select Wi-Fi. Toggle Disable Mac Randomization on.
  3. Assign to the device group for Indoor Location Positioning.
