Synchronizing Data Sources

About this task

Data sources supply information to your apps through data connections. Data connections can have multiple data sources, but they must all share the same data connection type (Google Sheets, for example). Information in data sources can be synced with an app without the need to republish.

Data can either be synced immediately, or set up to automatically sync on a scheduled basis.

Before you begin

Before you can synchronize an external data source, you must first:
  1. Inside an app, create an external data source (Google Sheet or OneDrive Sheet).
  2. Inside the same app, customize a widget to retrieve data from the external data source.
  3. Publish the app containing the external data source and widget.

Procedure

  1. In the App Manager view, beside the app you want to preview, select More > Data Sources.
  2. Next to the data source you want to sync, select More. Then choose from one of following two options:
    1. Sync
Result: Your app has been synced with the current version of the data source. Any future changes will require another sync.
    2. Schedule Sync
      1. In the Schedule a Data Sync dialog, provide the frequency and dates the data sync should recur on.
      2. Select Save.
Result: You have successfully created a schedule for your data source to sync with the app. You can change the schedule at any time by repeating these steps.
