Setting up an XTreme Hub

About this task

Speed up file transfer by offloading file distribution from the deployment server to Windows Desktop Classic devices.

You can enroll a desktop running one of the following operating systems as an XTreme Hub:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 10
  • Surface Pro
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2012
  • Windows Server 2016

To set up a Windows XTreme Hub device:

Procedure

  1. Arrange your devices and device groups.
Refer to Arranging XTreme Hubs for advice on how to arrange your devices to achieve the best results.
  2. Enroll a Windows desktop device as Windows Desktop Classic.
Follow the steps in Enrolling Windows Desktop Classic Devices. At step 11, choose Microsoft Windows XTreme Hub as the Manufacturer.
Important: Make sure the FQDN of your Windows XTreme Hub device matches its full computer name so that Android devices can connect to it and download files.
  3. Update your Windows XTreme Hub device settings to specify where files from the deployment server are held on the Windows desktop and over which port the Windows XTreme Hub device should communicate with the devices its transferring file to.
  4. Configure your Android Plus device's XTreme Hub settings to specify how devices should behave if they fail to download files from the Windows XTreme Hub device the first time.
