Web Filter
Use the Web Filter profile configuration when Creating a Profile or Editing a Profile to restrict the URLs that devices' Internet browser
can access. This configuration is available for the following device types:
- Android
- Work Managed
- Corporate Owned Work Personal (COPE)
- Work Profile
- Linux
Android
Use the Web Filter configuration on your Android devices to specify the URLs you want to
restrict or permit from the Google Chrome browser. If you block a URL, the device
user cannot access that URL. To do this:
- Select (Add) in the Add Website URL section.
- Select Allow or Block as the
Rule Type, and then enter a website's URL you wish to allow or block. Tip: You can use the
*
character as a Block Rule Type to block all websites. Then, add specific websites to the Allow Rule Type to give access to only those sites while blocking all others. - Optional: Select Add to add a new row to the table.
Tip: To remove a URL, hover over its table
row and select
Delete.
Linux
Use website filtering on your Linux devices to block users from accessing certain websites based on specific URLs. You can create a blacklist or a whitelist of URLs.
When applying a blacklist, any sites on the blacklist redirect the device user to the default URL of blocked websites or a blank page, depending on your settings.
A whitelist is more restrictive than a blacklist. The device user can only access the sites specified on the whitelist. Any attempts by the device user to access non-whitelisted sites redirects the device user to a default URL or a blank page, depending on your settings. Redirect URLs are automatically whitelisted.
Tip: For Linux devices, you can import more than one domains
from a file. The import file must be in .csv or
.txt format with one domain per row. Select
Browse to find the file, then select its encoding
type.
Select a Type | Toggle between Blacklist and Whitelist using these radio buttons. |
Whitelist/Blacklist URLs: Add (+) | Select this option to display the Websites section where you can enter the web domain(s) or website(s) that you want to include in your blacklist or whitelist rule. Each website or domain you add displays on the list, with a dedicated Delete icon that enables you to delete this website/domain. |
Whitelist/Blacklist URLs: Import | Select this option to open the Import Filter Domains dialog box in which you can import many filter domains from a file. The import file must be in .csv or .txt format with one filter domain per row. |
Delete All | Select this option to delete all domains or websites from the list. |
Note: You cannot apply both a blacklist and a whitelist within
the same profile configuration. If a device receives a blacklist and a whitelist
from two different profiles, the whitelist applies, overriding the blacklist. If
a device receives many blacklists or many whitelists from different profiles,
then the websites (and exceptions) from all profiles apply.
