Changing the Windows Edition of Windows Modern Devices
About this task
You can change the Windows 10 edition on your Windows Modern devices using SOTI MobiControl. See Microsoft Windows 10 Editions for supported upgrade paths.
Important:
- You must have licenses for the new edition types to complete this procedure.
- You cannot return your devices to the previous edition once you have upgraded.
To change the edition of your Windows Modern devices:
Procedure

Select the devices whose editions you want to change and click the Update License icon in the Device Actions menu bar.
Click the More menu button to see the full device actions list.

In the Update License dialog box, select a license type from the Type of License dropdown list.
- Product Key: Use for Windows Desktop devices
- License File: Use for Windows Phone (Windows 10 or later) or HoloLens devices
- Enter the Product Key or XML License File in the License field.
- If you receive a warning about device compatibility, click the warning message at the bottom of the dialog box to see why you cannot change the editions of some of the selected devices.
- Click Update License.
