MobiControl Manager - Devices View previous index next

MobiControl allows administrators to centrally manage their mobile field force. The MobiControl component that facilitates this centralized management is, MobiControl Manager. Using the tools provided in MobiControl Manager user interface, administrators can automatically configure new devices, add or remove devices, install/uninstall software, provide helpdesk and support services, monitor mobile devices and more.

The MobiControl Manager user interface consists of five views of operation, of the system. Each view is represented as a tab at the bottom of MobiControl Manager user interface (i.e. Devices View, Rules View, Packages View, Deployment Servers View, and Reports View).

MobiControl Manager - Devices View

Devices View in MobiControl Manager, is used to view information about devices as well as to manage devices. The tree on the left allows administrators to organize how devices are used or where they are located. Devices that are currently connected to the system are shown with a different icon (i.e. Connected Icon) from devices that are offline. As devices come online or go offline their icon's change accordingly (i.e. in real-time) to reflect their status.

Filtered views can be used to create specialized views of the devices in the deployment (e.g. A view which only shows Online devices).

By clicking on a device in the tree, an administrator can view detailed information about the device (e.g. Device ID, Assigned Rules, Packages Installed, IP address, Activity Logs, etc.). A device can be moved to another group in the tree by simply dragging its icon to the appropriate group. Operations can be performed on a specific device by simply right clicking on the device icon and selecting an operation from the displayed popup menu. Operations can be performed on multiple devices by selecting multiple devices and/or groups of devices.

Example - Remote Control Session
If an administrator notices that a device is online by looking at its icon, and is interested in monitoring what the device is being used for, he can simply right click on the device icon and select the 'Remote Control' menu option. MobiControl will then open up a Window that displays a Remote Control session to the device, allowing the administrator to see what is happening on the screen of the device, and control it if need be. For more information about using the MobiControl Remote Control/Helpdesk features click here.

In addition to allowing users to open Remote Control sessions to Devices, the Device View allows users to: Change the device name, Disable the device, Delete the device, Move the device to a different group, Configure device lockdown and more.
